The Basic Security Training (BST) exam is the mandatory licensing test for anyone seeking a Security Guard License in British Columbia. It’s administered by the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) and ensures that every guard has the knowledge and judgment to work safely and legally.

Course Requirement

Before you can sit the BST exam, you must complete a 40‑hour Basic Security Training course through an approved provider (online or in‑class). The Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) is one of the primary course providers.

How to Register & Book Your Exam

  1. Go to www.myjibc.ca and log in with your JIBC Student ID.
  2. Under “My Current Online Classes,” click BST: Assessment.
  3. Select “Final Exam,” then click Begin once the invigilator has started your session.
  4. You will have up to 120 minutes to finish.
